Frequently Asked Questions

Where does Smart Flow operate?

Smart Flow currently executes projects in Central and South America. We offer consulting services around the globe, leveraging our international experience to optimize customer’s water needs.

What crops does Smart Flow have experience with?

We have experience developing irrigation systems for tropical fruit trees, nut trees, citrus, row crops and pastures. A few examples include cacao, avocado, mango, citrus, grapes, alfalfa, pasture, roses, banana, corn, tomatoes, pistachios, and almonds. If you don’t see your specific crop listed, contact us for a complete list of our crop history.

What is the timeline for project completion of a mechanized system?

After signing a contract and making the first payment, the system will be fabricated in Nebraska, USA. Fabrication is estimated to last up to 45 days. Transportation to the farm is estimated to last 2 - 4 weeks depending on the farm’s location. After receiving the equipment at the farm, the system will be installed and commissioned in approximately one week.

While the equipment is being delivered to the farm, some customers will need to drill a new well or lay pipe in preparation for installation. This work will be coordinated with each customer to avoid project timeline delays.

What is the timeline for project completion of a conventional system?

For flat and simple farms, design proposals can generally be complete within 2 - 4 weeks. More complex farms have an internal design target between 2 - 3 months. Installations range between 1 month and up to 12 months depending on size, materials required and other complexities.

While these timelines are our best estimates, many factors influence actual project timelines including availability of technical data needed for the design, weather during installation, and onsite farm conditions. We will develop a transparent project schedule as part of every project to ensure expectations are understood and our working relationship remains strong throughout the life of each system.

What is unique about Smart Flow’s proposals?

Every proposal we submit includes financial payback projections with clearly defined variables and sensitivity analyses. We include an equipment ‘menu’ showing cost ranges for certain system components, and ensure clients understand the pros/cons of each scenario. We have also developed an internal discounted cash flow model which is shared with each client so they are able to challenge the assumptions used and further evaluate the financial benefits of our proposed irrigation system.
